Finally got mine from Maplin (£274.99 with voucher) yesterday (day after dispatch) and all set up - very happy with it. Thanks again for all the updates.

Just curious about guarantee. My previous Humax freeview came with a two year g'tee, this one says 'one year minimum' in the paperwork - so what is the actual guarantee?

I am new to HD but understand that the best is 1080p. As the Humax is rated at 1080i what is the difference and will I see it? Will there be a better HDR (any make) along any time soon?

No one broadcasts in 1080p at the moment as it needs too much bandwidth. 1080i is as good as you need.

Managed to order one via Amazon yesterday - altho not the cheapest! Maplins don't seem to serve in order - I "reserved" one on the 19th, and I notice people ordered later and have received it
already. still thanks for a really useful site!

Hello,

Can you possibly tell me if the Humax Foxsat HDR FREESAT SATELLITE PVR would work where I live, on the north coast of the Greek island of Crete?

I can receive programs on Astra 2, Hotbird, Arabsat, and Thor?

I would love to be able to watch some good British programs instead of the mainly American dross currently available!

Your comments would be much appreciated.

Best regards,

Roger E. Cooper

Roger, if you get Astra 2 programs you should already be able to see all the Freesat channels except maybe the (two)HD ones. If you didn't do a rescan in the past two years maybe you don't see any because they used to be encrypted. It pays to do a regular rescan because more channels are regularly going "free to air" e.g. channel "Five" within the last two months.

Did you mean Astra 1 ? There are different beams on Astra 2, and Freesat uses beams that are supposed to be difficult to receive outside of GB. But check out "KingOfSat" website for range maps based on actual user reports. It seems someone in Crete reports good reception of the beams that Freesat uses with a 1.4m dish, but this doesn't really agree with the range maps published by Astra which say "no chance".

Note that you don't need a Freesat box to see these channels. All you get extra with the "Freesat" badge is the Programmme Guide (which of course is really useful with the PVR).

If you do buy this box don't throw away your old receiver, because the Foxsat-HDR is a bit weak on the features that allow you to look at other satellites.

Hello
Hoping to get a HDR recorder when they come into stock, but regarding installation what do you think is a reasonable price to pay?
I guess if i mail order one i will need to arrange for someone else other than where i'm purchasing from to install, so as they are not selling the item themselves they might bump the price up on the installing service.
Any suggestions on a reasonable price much appreciated (location, near Cambridge) and numbers for installers.
Thanks
Jon

Is there a Loop out on this box which will extend the aerial from the Family TV thru the wall to My TV?
Or is there another way to do this.
