East Anglia Argos Update
I reserved the one as East Dereham today, but didn't get a confirmation
email, so also reserved the one at Fakenham. Just collected that one, so
East Dereham should have one back on stock by Friday morning.
Also, just noticed one in stock at Stowmarket....

Just ordered one from the comet website. Have selected free delevery for a
week on monday. Not sure if this means they have more or not.

If anybody in the Norwich / Gt Yarmouth area wants one I have one reserved
at Argos. I reserved it for a friend who managed to get one elsewhere.
Mail me and I'll send you the reservation number - valid until close of
business Thursday 29th

Hi Chris
I'm sure I unchecked the box on the last post. I've definitely uncheked it
this time. Anyway just in case...
humax "at" robina3 "dot" f9 "dot" co.uk
- hope that makes sense.

Having finally grabbed one of the trickle of units that are now popping up
at Argos stores around the country, I have to asy I'm gobsmacked by this
box. I was relaxed about getting one (whilst the panic is still on)
because I already have an HD PVR (but needed Freesat for the
simplifications that will keep other family members happy).
A couple of things that pleasantly surprised me after experience with 4
other PVRs :
1. The EPG and even menus are in great HD too.
2. It runs really cool even when recording HD.
But what a weird shopping experience ! The RRP of this box is clearly
£292.64 (it was introduced with a fanfare as a £299 box, then the VAT came
down). Why are Humax distributing them via sharks like "Turdosat" who are
selling at nearly 10% over the RRP (and with a £10 carriage charge on top
of that, I think)? Yet reputable retailers like John Lewis appear not to
have had any since December.
Even the Argos experience was fairly weird. The Argos tills automatically
provide a list of things for the operator to tell the customer. Among
these was "there is no HDMI cable in the box, can we sell you one". I told
her that I believed there is one in the box (and there is, it's not a long
one, but neither is the one Argos are pushing). I just checked what Argos
would have charged me for that cable - £24.49 ("less one third if bought
with Foxsat-HDR") for a 0.9 metre HDMI cable. No thanks, even if there
wasn't one in the box already !
